Create Your Own Christmas Sweatshirts

IMG_5618

It’s a new week here at By Hand, With Heart and I am very excited because it is officially December! Today I will be showing you guys how I made these very simple and adorable christmas sweatshirts. This tutorial will also include short videos showing how to sew a catch stitch as well as how to sew a button! I hope everyone gets in the crafting Christmas spirit and makes awesome shirts of ya’lls own!

Let’s get started. The snowman shirt requires:

  • orange fabric
  • black buttons
  • black thread
  • needle
  • white sweatshirt
  • scissors

First I chose buttons in various sizes and them out how I would like. I then cut out a triangle of orange fabric. Thread your needle and make a knot at the end. You will always want to start from underneath and pull toward yourself when you sew the triangle. That way the knot is on the inside of the shirt. Use a normal stitch to secure the triangle all the way around. Here is how I secured my buttons:

For the christmas tree shirt you will need:

  • green fabric
  • red bow
  • white thread
  • needle
  • white sweatshirt
  • scissors

First I sketched out my general shape of the tree with a pencil and cut it out. Thread your needle and make a knot at the end and once again start from underneath and pull toward yourself to hide your knot on the inside of the shirt. Here is a clip of how to sew a catch stitch. It is quite simple and adds a really cute look to the shirt.

Afterward I used a normal stitch to sew on my bow.  There you have it! Two adorable Christmas sweatshirts made by hand and with heart.
